氣功是透過以呼吸的調整、身體活動的調整和意識的調整(調息,調形,調心)為鍛煉方法,務求達到強身健體、健康身心、抗病延年、開發潛能等目的。

氣功的種類繁多,主要可分為動功和靜功。動功是指以身體的活動為主的氣功,如導引派以動功為主,特點是強調與意氣相結合的肢體操作。而靜功是指身體不動,只靠意識、呼吸的自我控制來進行的氣功。大多氣功方法是動靜相間的。宗教中,道教的道士常會練習導引、內丹術氣功,佛教裡的禪定、靜坐也包含氣功。

高煌師傅妙通氣功學院,服務灣區20年,學生桃李滿門,深得各界人士讚賞。

高師傅自幼習道,精通氣功養生功法,曾受訓於中國癌症防治腫瘤研究基金會,早在80年代初於香港懸壺濟世,創立妙通氣功醫療學院,以菩薩慈悲憐憫世人之心以氣功助人,受惠者不勝其數。

高煌師傅90年代移居美國,於三藩市跑華街設立妙通氣功醫療學院,為我們華人拓展傳統偉大中華文化,發揚道教文化精神,學生善信眾多,更包括不同族裔人仕,有教無類,發楊崇高醫德精神!高師傅亦任教於加州太平洋醫療中心CPMC,Marin General Hospital ,三藩市華埠青年會,把我們偉大氣功文化帶進西方的主流社會,至今不少西方人仕深受高師傅偉大精神影響,潛修氣功學藝。

氣功靜坐是我們道家必修法門,正所謂天地浩然正氣長存,氣功可以改變我們身體機能,增強免疫力、抵抗力,自然療法,延年益壽的一種養生帶氧運動。

Qigong, chi kung, or chi gung is a practice of aligning body, breath, and mind for health, meditation, and martial arts training. With roots in Chinese medicine, philosophy, and martial arts, qigong is traditionally viewed as a practice to cultivate and balance qi (chi) or what has been translated as "life energy".

Chi is the vital energy which constitutes all living matter.

Kung refers to the practice or repetition of an activity.

Chi Kung is the art of cultivation and balancing the life force or energy through regular practice.

For more than 4,000 years the Chinese have practiced this healing art. Chi Kung principles are used by advanced practitioners to provide healing treatments to patients. A Master transmits Chi energy to prevent and cure disease, reestablish an individual's spiritual balance, and to strengthen the immune system.

Over 50 years of scientific research in Beijing and Shanghai have provided empirical evidence of the medicinal applications of Chi Kung, bringing wide acceptance in China's scientific and medical companies. The Chinese government licenses Chi Kung clinics and schools.

Therapeutic Chi Kung treatments are available in hospital in China an increasingly, throughout the world. Chi Kung is an essential element or Traditional Chinese Medicine.
